An unforgettably original lyricist, the music of Australian singer/songwriter Alex the Astronaut cycles through a series of radiantly detailed slices of life. Alex documents moments of both the seemingly mundane from a haircut, a therapy session, a trip to the beach and to the supermarket to then utterly life-changing experiences as a caregiver along with the PTSD that followed and her recent diagnosis with autism. AODHAN (Aidan Whitehall) is a seventeen-year-old Dhawaral songwriter from Wollongong Australia who is already taking the world by storm. His early single releases caught the attention of Communion Publishing UK which saw him signing a deal where he joins a roster that includes Bears Den & Catfish & The Bottlemen. His 2019 single “Butterflies” is already well over one million streams.

2020 saw AODHAN record his debut EP “Flies In The Room” with producer Ryan Miller (Angus & Julia Stone/Thelma Plum) which is due for release in May 2021 and features the singles “Twelve Again & I’m Closed”. Triple J seem to dig what they hear so far with AODHAN winning the Unearthed High Indigenous initiative and landing a spot in the finals for Unearthed High for “Twelve Again”. AODHAN was also part of the BIGSOUND Big 50 for 2020.

AODHAN is building quite the team, signing a management deal with Kadence/Footstomp, and joining the illustrious Select Music bookings team. He and his band are in the process of announcing their first-ever headline tour to celebrate the EP release this July.

Taking influence from a huge range of writers, genres, and eras in Aodhan fuses heartfelt writing with soulful musicality. Aodhan is broadening his tastes and has begun to experiment with his production, finding his feet at the door of a dreamy indie sound without losing the acoustic folk that inspired him to pick up a guitar in the first place. He has also recently relished the opportunity to write with some of his favourite artists Josh Pyke and Holy Holy and has a few special collaborations still on the cards.

Australian singer-songwriter Azure Ryder is constantly influenced by the power of the earth, the sky, the moon and the stars which you can hear throughout her music – powerful, earthy and emotionally stirring, she seeks guidance and strength from the natural energies that surround her on a daily basis which in turn feed into her sound.

The young singer is accustomed to splitting her time between London, LA, Nashville and home (a small coastal town near Sydney) where she works on her music. She is now based in London full time. Rising Tanzanian-born, Burundi-raised, Australian-based star Beckah Amani is set to make waves in 2022.

In 2021 Beckah won the coveted QMA Award for Emerging Artist Of The Year – and in March this year – received the APRA Professional Development Award for Popular Contemporary in her homeland of Australia.

‘What Should I Do?’ is one of six tracks on Conversations, Budjerah’s second EP set for release 8th April. Didirri Peters grew up in the coastal Australian countryside, in the town of Warrnambool. He began writing songs as a challenge to himself to be honest. Confessional and clear-minded, flowerkid has always drawn on his most intimate observations to craft music well beyond his years. Growing up in western Sydney, Flynn first fell into music after his aunt gifted him an old Yamaha keyboard. It revealed a natural obsession as he quickly began teaching himself to write and produce fledgling tracks while hidden away in his teen bedroom.

In 2021, flowerkid returned with a revelatory debut EP that’s the natural culmination of his years of introspection and art-making.

Grace Cummings is a folk musician influenced by 20th century poets and luminaries, from Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan to Brett Whitely and Van Gogh. Her songwriting is intensely personal and reflects a strong connection to the Australian landscape.

In her short career, Grace has been invited to support Weyes Blood, Evan Dando, J Mascis, the Allah-Lahs, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Springtime.

Her debut album, Refuge Cove, was released through Flightless Records (King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard). Her sophomore album, Storm Queen, was released worldwide via indie powerhouse ATO Records and in 2021 to worldwide critical acclaim, including a 4-star lead review in MOJO.

Shortly after forming, HighSchool – the trio of Lilli Trobbiani, Luke Scott and Rory Trobbiani – found themselves in near-eternal lockdown with the COVID restrictions being placed on their hometown proving the longest anywhere in the world. Deprived of the chance to go out and play shows, they carried on undeterred, recording tracks with close friend Archie Shannon (Floodlights) and dropping them every few months along with a stunning, self-directed music video for each.

Signing to UK tastemaker label Dalliance Recordings (Gia Margaret, Francis of Delirium, Wilsen) and already championed by the likes of NME, The FADER, Clash, DIY, PAPER and So Young, HighSchool have come far in their first year. Keeping momentum up, a move to London is planned in the new year with the band finally making their live debut shortly after.

Debut EP, Forever at Last, collects their six tracks to date and is a testament to the band’s ingenuity and resilience. It also shows a band keen to evolve their sound, effortlessly mining a multitude of influences while keeping on their own path. Australian sisters Abbey and Mia Toole have played music with their cousin Jaymi since they were just kids. Party Dozen are a duo from Sydney made up of Kirsty Tickle (saxophone) and Jonathan Boulet (percussion and sampler). Since forming in 2017, they have become renowned in Australia for their incendiary live shows, touring and playing with acts such as LIARS, Tropical Fuck Storm and Viagra Boys. Exactly what Party Dozen are is completely up to the listener. Doom. Jazz. Hardcore. Psychedelic. No-wave. Industrial.

Although largely instrumental, their sets are punctuated by Kirsty’s unique “singing” style, screaming into the bell of her saxophone which itself goes through a bevy of effects pedals. 2022 sees the release of their “Fat Hans Gone Mad” single on Sub Pop and new album The Real Work on Temporary Residence, which features guest vocals from Nick Cave.

Australian rock group PLANET return to British shores, after years of cancelled and rescheduled shows, for a run across the country in support of their debut album Information Overload.

SongBook, the debut album by Sydney four-piece The Lazy Eyes, is a world unto itself. It’s all journey and all destination, a decidedly modern marvel of psych-rock that’s unpretentious in construction but precious where it counts.

Harvey Geraghty, Itay Shachar and Noah Martin met in their early years at Sydney’s Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. They became fast friends and began to busk around Sydney, their burgeoning band bound together by long hours carting their instruments around the city. Around 2015 The Lazy Eyes decided to formalise the band as a unit, a decision that coincided neatly with their meeting of Leon Karagic, who provided much-needed bass to their ensemble.

Off the back of their first two EPs, released in 2020 and 2021, The Lazy Eyes have sold out numerous shows along Australia’s east coast, including their own music festival, Lazyfest; which garnered praise from outlets including KCRW, FBi Radio, triple j Unearthed, BBC 6 Music andRadio 1, and NME. Their reputation continues to grow despite the fact that jaunts at SXSW and the Great Escape were cancelled in light of the pandemic.

SongBook is evidence of an edifice slowly being formed, a trepidatious first footstep by the band into the wider world. The dynamic “Fuzz Jam”, the latest taste from SongBook, sees the band at the height of their powers, deftly slipping from one mode to another in seconds. Combining the piquant feel of classic 60s psych with sharp Gen Z wit, it’s magnanimous and effusive, a vivid insight into the world of four of Australia’s most talented musicians. The VANNS are a true powerhouse of modern-day Australian rock & roll, best described as, “four mates playing their instruments loud & live”. Touring more-or-less non-stop since 2015, they have certainly exceeded recent expectations, selling out every capital city they’ve visited and showing no signs of stopping.

Led by Jimmy Vann (lead vocals – rhythm guitar) and Cameron Little (lead guitar – vocals – keys), performing live is the true home of The VANNS. The rhythmic backbone consists of Tom Switlek (bass – backing vocals) & Andrew “Banjo” Banovich (drums – vocals). The rhythm outfit have played together since they first picked up their instruments and together they form the raw yet polished sounds that are selling out venues like The Forum and Metro Theatre Sydney, time and time again.

Doubling as triple j’s Feature Album in November 2019 upon its release, The VANNS’ debut ‘Through The Walls’ was a true demonstration of their storytelling and songwriting abilities maturing. Under the guidance of Holy Holy’s “Guitar Messiah” Oscar Dawson producing, the record truly came alive. With huge songs such as ‘Mother,’ ‘Deranged’ and ‘Fake Friends’ delivering on their stadium filling sound, ‘Jules Said’ acts as a counterbalance with its raw honesty, whilst the emotional slow-build ‘Chelsea’ has developed an almost cult-like following amongst fans. This success saw The VANNS arrive with their first triple j Like A Version. Tackling Bon Iver’s ‘Hey, Ma’ standing on its own whilst doing the original justice, with 4.3 million streams across platforms to date.

Starting off in the trenches, opening for the likes of Ocean Alley and Catfish & The Bottlemen, The VANNS have found themselves being main stage staples at festivals like Big Pineapple, Party In The Paddock, and Yours & Owls. The band’s tenacity has garnered them global attention too, seeing them ink a deal with the prestigious Paradigm Talent Agency and join the likes of Billie Eilish, The 1975, Amyl & The Sniffers, Tkay Maidza, and more on the agency’s roster.

The VANNS closed out 2021 with two huge new tracks, ‘Red Light’ and ‘Feels Good Now’, recorded in Byron Bay and produced by Chris Collins (Gang Of Youths, Skegss, Ruby Fields), landing at at #167 and #129 respectively on the triple j Hottest 200.

The VANNS hit 2022 with new recordings in the works, a sold-out tour (their biggest shows to date), a support run with The Wombats, and invitations to play big name festivals both at home and overseas.

Twenty-five-year-old Organ first gained national Australian attention in late 2017 with the release of the single, ‘Watch You Go,’ a detailed account of the death of his father, Rikki, in 2016. It was a song that was equally flowing with grief and joy, as Organ, a kid from the raw, Northern suburbs of the former steel city Wollongong, pursued not only his dreams to become a professional musician, but his desire to achieve catharsis and find meaning in his father’s untimely passing.

From there he pivoted with his follow up – the upbeat rocker, ‘Graceful,’ and with it showed off the next huge step in his artistic development. The single saw him aim big – going for a huge, rockier sound, while continuing to focus on the delicacy of his lyricism. Again, championed by triple j, ‘Graceful’ proved to be a major turning point in his fledgling career, leading to sold out national solo tours, support slots for big name acts like Jake Bugg, Lime Cordiale, and Middle Kids.

In 2019, Organ released his debut EP, Persevere, spearheaded by the barnstorming single ‘Something New.’ By now Organ had grown from the surfer-songwriter from the NSW South Coast, into a fully-formed frontman with swagger, a voice as powerful in its deeper register as its highest falsetto, and three songs that had burned bright in high rotation on national radio for 18 months. That all culminated in a massive Splendour In The Grass festival set that featured a packed tent of fans singing back at him in full force in a truly triumphant moment. 

Across all 12 songs of his debut album Necessary Evil, Organ goes to new lengths as both an artist and a man.

The follow-up single to ‘Hold Me Back,’ ‘Not Ready For Love’ was again a hit upon release. A song acknowledging the grief of a lost love, it was washed in a celebratory collection of chords that distracted from the heartbreak at its core. Through layers of bashing drums and slick guitar lines though, was a voice fried with emotion and anguish. It cut so deep that it ended up being his most successful international single to date, and even earned the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, saying, “…he’s got such a sick voice, like he’s just woken up after a three-day bender with Mick Jagger and Ozzy Osbourne”. The album Necessary Evil landed Tyne a spot in the Hottest 100 for Sunday Suit, one of the best Like A Versions for 2021, a national TV performance on NYE, and huge sold out shows in 2022.

Australia’s Yours Truly are 2022’s must-watch in the alternative scene. Huge international touring credits, media and radio trailblazing and a burgeoning brood of fans are just some of the successes that back this band, but it’s the knack for punchy songwriting and performance deep in their DNA that makes this four-piece really tick.

From their hometown in Sydney, Yours Truly first broke out with their 2019 EP ‘Afterglow’ (hear its standout singles ‘Circles’ and ‘High Hopes’) and went on to spend the rest of the year gracing stages including Download UK, Riot Fest and Good Things and supporting rock heroes including Sum 41 and State Champs on their international quests. In 2020 the band followed with their full-length ‘Self Care’, which saw the band awarded a laundry list of accolades including triple j’s Feature Album and Tone Deaf’s Record Of The Week, alongside band nominations for Rolling Stone’s ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best International Breakthrough Band’ at the UK Heavy Awards.

Following the arrival of their urgent, pulsing and frustration-filled single ‘Walk Over My Grave’ in the latter half of 2021, 2022 finds the group stepping into a new era with the unveiling of ‘Lights On’.
