Austin, Texas will always be the spiritual home of THE AUSSIE BBQ. It’s where it started, over 20 years ago, in the carpark of Emo’s when it used to be on Red River St, with a BBQ and a bunch of Australian acts.
After a couple of years presenting showcases in Australia House on Rainey St, we moved to a brand new venue in 2025. The Creek & Cave on E 7th St (which we christened Sounds Australia House) is just around the corner from that old Emo’s site, so it felt fitting to fire up the burners and bring THE AUSSIE BBQ back to SXSW (and yes, there was an actual BBQ too).
27 Australian acts showcased across two days in Sounds Australia House and Marcelle Bradbeer was there to capture it all.
