Last week we had the pleasure of hosting some of Japan’s top music industry professionals in Sydney.
The second year of our Sound X Sounds Inbound Exchange, supported by Sound NSW through the NSW Government, involved a week-long program connecting them with artists and industry from NSW, experiencing some very special cultural moments, and seeing the incredible Australian talent at SXSW Sydney showcases.
We teamed up with fbi.radio to host a mixer at Attenzione! on Friday afternoon to celebrate Japanese diaspora artists in Australia, and a huge thank you to Kana Frazer for DJing and curating a lineup of friends on the decks, including 198archie, Georgia Mulligan, Gian Santoro, Hinano Fujisaki, Jerome Blaze and Jennifers Last Name.
YouTube AU/NZ & YouTube Japan delivered a fascinating session at Golden Age Cinema, which also featured amazing insights from Music Ally Japan and Made Management Japan, and got us very excited about the possibilities in the Japanese market.
Thanks to the Association of Artist Managers and the Australian Festivals Association who helped us coordinate several networking events for the Japanese delegation.
Big thank yous also go to APRA AMCOS, Art Gallery of NSW, Botanic Gardens of Sydney, Phoenix Central Park, Sydney Opera House and triple j for hosting tours, events and really special performances throughout the week. Shoutout to the SXSW Sydney team for putting together another amazing program this year.
But the biggest arigato of all goes to our new friends from Japan who were so open and generous with their time and knowledge. We hope you made some meaningful connections and hopefully we’ll see you in your country really soon.
