Matt Sofo is a composer located in Los Angeles, hailing originally from Byron Bay, Australia. Matt is known for his blend of organic instrumentation and electronic music that creates a tense, emotional underscore. His love for minimalistic, moody soundscapes creates the perfect accompaniment for dramatic productions and story lead shows. Matt is currently working under Breton Vivian as an additional composer on the Taylor Sheridan show Y: Marshals (which is part of the Yellowstone universe) and has recently composed for US pilot, titled Codependent which will be showcased at the upcoming SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

Over the past 15 years, Matt has been dedicated to working in various areas of music; from electronic dance music to orchestral performances and working as a producer. Matt has over 70 writing credits on successful releases in the Australian ARIA club charts, including 2 No.1 releases. Matt’s music has also been licensed for advertisements with household brands such as Adidas, Google, Foxtel, and for TV shows on HBO (Sex Lives of College Girls), Paramount and Stan.

As a composer, Matt has scored everything from documentaries for Channel 10, cooking shows, SBS drama’s, and even the titles for Paramount’s popular cult comedy Inspired Unemployed – Impractical Jokers. Matt love’s to support narrative, character identity and emotional pacing, something that feels human and real. Working closely with the team of directors, writers and producers to tell their story and bring a new element to their picture through sound. His body of work aligns with the need for emotionally driven story and character first composition.

Matt’s goals as a composer is to be able to write music that connects with other humans and evokes something within them. Music that allows people to pause, reflect, feel something and be changed in some way.
