Majella Clarke

Majella Clarke works at the intersection of art, science and technology. As a conductor, her practice focuses on both experimental conducting with technology, as well as traditional conducting of classical music and contemporary ensembles. Her recent projects include Spherical Harmonics, which creates gesture scores and sculptures inspired by the shapes of spherical harmonics with a sonic baton, conducting graphic and nature scores, as well as the sonic baton project, which she developed in collaboration with intelligent instruments lab in Iceland and uses for conducting ensembles. Her research focuses on compositional materiality, the expansion of conducting practice, and aesthetic implications for ensembles and performance.
