The Gnomes

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, The Gnomes are a baby-faced four-piece making wiry, high-energy guitar music that draws equally from ‘60s beat, garage and left-of-centre power pop. Formed around the songs of teenage singer-guitarist Jay Millar — originally a prolific Bandcamp bedroom project — the band quickly took shape on Melbourne’s pub rock circuit, building a following on the back of sharp hooks and sweaty, joyous live shows.

Their self-titled debut, released in late 2025, pushed them onto the international radar, picking up 4-star reviews in Mojo, Shindig! and Vive Le Rock alongside coverage from Creem and Raven Sings The Blues. Classic Rock praised their “high-octane, harmony-laden jangle rock nectar…absolutely everything Oasis could have been but for the addition of a single ounce of unguarded joy,” while Mojo called it “garage rock magic… the possibilities are endless.”

Rooted in the suburbs but tuned into a global lineage of shredding, angular guitar bands, The Gnomes balance chiming pop instincts with a loose, instinctive edge — equal parts reverence and restless momentum.
