TOWNS are an Adelaide based duo built on contradiction.
What began as a project rooted in the earnestness of pop-punk has gradually evolved into something far harder to define – blending alternative rock, indie sleaze, dance music, post-punk and left-field pop into a sound that feels both nostalgic and completely forward facing.
Formed by longtime friends Aston Valladares and Dan Steinert, TOWNS have spent the better part of a decade building a fiercely loyal audience through relentless touring, unforgettable live shows and an unwavering commitment to writing songs that connect. Along the way they’ve shared stages with Turnstile, Boston Manor, Hot Mulligan, Trophy Eyes and Dear Seattle, appeared at festivals including BIGSOUND, Harvest Rock, SPIN OFF and Yours & Owls and become one of South Australia’s most celebrated independent acts, taking home Best Rock Artist at the South Australian Music Awards four consecutive years.
Their debut album sentimental slowdown, released through Farmer & The Owl/ BMG, introduced a band capable of pairing huge hooks with heartfelt storytelling. Singles including “Birthdays”, “can’t blame yr dad” and “‘Tantrum” earned support from triple j, national DSP playlisting and international exposure through the EA Sports NHL 25 and 2026 soundtrack.
Currently completing work on their sophomore album, the band have emerged with a sound that pushes far beyond their roots. Equal parts cathartic, chaotic and euphoric, the new material draws influence from across the musical spectrum while remaining unmistakably TOWNS – finding common ground between guitar music, club culture, pop sensibility and raw emotional honesty.
At the heart of it all is the same thing that has always defined the band: songs about friendship, growing up, falling apart, finding yourself and searching for connection in an increasingly disconnected world.
TOWNS aren’t interested in recreating the past. They’re interested in building something entirely their own.
