Julia Robinson (ARIA & PPCA)
A proud Aboriginal woman with family ties to Wiradyuri country, Julia is the Head of Policy and Advocacy for ARIA and PPCA. She came to the music industry working in nightclubs in the early 2000’s, moving onto festival operations and live music venue management. Julia’s work in festivals led to advocacy and government relations through the launch of an industry body representing the shared needs of music festivals in Australia – the Australian Festival Association. Through the AFA, Julia was involved in several industry-wide campaigns including the ilostmygig data capture project during COVID, and the Music Industry Review. During her time at the AFA, Julia co-chaired the NSW Government’s Music Festival Roundtable and was a member of the Live Music Roundtable in Victoria. At ARIA and PPCA, Julia has enjoyed the continued work on shared industry issues including Australian music discoverability, fair pay for radio play, genre-based policing, and the importance of a voice for music within all levels of government.
Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA)
ARIA is a national industry association representing major and independent record producers, manufacturers and distributors. It acts as an advocate for the Australian music industry, administers the labeling code of practice, provides a ‘blanket’ non-exclusive licensing function for copyright users and compiles industry information and research.
Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA)
Established in 1969, the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia Limited is a national, non-government, non-profit organisation that represents the interest of record companies and Australian recording artists. We work together with our licensors, being thousands of Australian recording artists and hundreds of labels both major and independent. While PPCA enables businesses to thrive by playing a repertoire of quality music, we also safeguard the rights of thousands of Australian recording artists and labels, ensuring that they receive a fair return for their music.
