Patrick Ryan

Patrick Ryan is a Melbourne-based musician, producer and label owner, and the founder of Dune Castle – an independent record label and studio focused on collaborative, live-recorded music across jazz, funk, soul and left-field electronic music.

Operating out of an in-house studio in Melbourne’s inner north, Dune Castle works closely with a community of musicians across composition, improvisation and experimental recording. The label places a strong emphasis on live performance in the studio, atmosphere, and building cohesive sonic worlds across its catalogue.

Alongside running the label, Patrick performs and records under the name Cantrips, a project centred around songwriting, arrangement and visual storytelling. He also works across a number of Dune Castle releases as a producer, recording engineer and mix engineer.

Recent and upcoming Dune Castle releases include Blademasters – an instrumental funk/soul collaboration with members of Surprise Chef – and Tony Soprano Band, an improvised downtempo/electronic project recorded live in a single day-long session.

Dune Castle’s current roster and release schedule spans instrumental soul and funk, downtempo electronica, and song-driven psychedelic music, with a growing focus on developing an internationally connected independent label identity.
