Sonja Schebeck

A dynamic force in the world of interdisciplinary performance, Sonja Schebeck trained at the Sydney Conservatorium and MUK Vienna, founding The Freestyle Orchestra in 2016. She has toured extensively as duo-partner to Nigel Kennedy, founding member of his ‘Orchestra of Life and guest musician with the Wiener Symphoniker and Sydney Symphony. As violinist/fire artist/acrobat she has appeared for Igudesman & Joo’s ‘League of X-traordinary Musicians’, ‘Pigalle’ (Sydney Festival) and tours with Australian circus company Gravity & Other Myths.

Other highlights include touring Ross Edwards’ ‘Maninyas’ Concerto (soloist with Houston Ballet), and performances with ‘The Freestyle Orchestra’ including ‘Concertos on Fire’ (Vivid Sydney), Venice Biennale, ‘Orchestra am Berg’ (concert at 1900m in the Austrian Alps), Vienna Festwochen Opening, and pandemic initiatives ‘The Looking Glass Cabaret’ performances in shop windows, ‘The Secret Garden’ Festival and ‘Vien.noir’ cabaret.

Collaborating closely with Australian composer Chloé Charody, current projects include ‘Tale of the Firebird’ Concerto for Violin, Fire & Acrobatic Orchestra, and LIMBO Sonata for Acrobatic Violinist & Acrobat.
