Susan Cotchin

Susan Cotchin boasts a distinguished reputation in neighbouring rights, backed by a 27-year tenure in the field. Undoubtedly, she stands as one of the foremost experts globally in this domain.

Her career commenced in 1999 as Royalty Accounts Manager at P@MRA/PPL in the UK, where she worked for artists including Muse and PJ Harvey.

Susan spent her formative music years in Melbourne as a signed singer-songwriter before graduating with honours from RMIT University with a BA in Music Industry. In 2003, she founded International Royalties Rescue (IRR), one of the earliest independent neighbouring rights agencies of its kind globally.

In 2006, IRR launched into the UK, expanding its reach across international performer and recording rights.

IRR represented artists and rightsholders including Jet, The Temper Trap, Beyoncé, Radiohead, Rihanna and Eagles for the world, building a reputation for specialist neighbouring rights representation across territories.

In 2019, Susan led the joint venture acquisition of IRR by Michael Gudinski, integrating it into the Mushroom Group to form Good Neighbour Rights. As Managing Director, she now leads a specialist company representing independent labels, artists and rightsholders including Kylie Minogue, Crowded House, Zedd, Khruangbin, Gordo, Ourness, Boyz II Men and Simply Red.

A sought-after adviser to managers, legal teams, business managers and labels, Susan brings rare commercial and legal insight to neighbouring rights, revenue growth and international rights strategy.

She speaks on panels across the globe and advocates for equitable remuneration where fair pay does not exist and for performers to be paid as music use evolves through AI.

Away from the business, Susan is happiest listening to her jazz, funk records, with her 18 year old Son and her schnauzer, Jack.
