Recap: IIMW 2026

A look back at India International Music Week in Mumbai last month.

Last month we embarked on a Trade Mission in partnership with the Australian Consul-General to Mumbai and the Victorian Music Development Office for India International Music Week (IIMW).

The showcase conference in Mumbai provided a dynamic platform for connection, exchange and forward‑thinking collaboration between Australian and Indian music industries. The program opened with a site visit to YouTube, offering valuable insight into the platform’s role in shaping music discovery and global audience growth in the region, before moving into a high‑level networking lunch that brought together key figures from across the Indian music ecosystem. These moments set the tone for a week focused on meaningful dialogue, shared ambition and long‑term relationship building for the fourteen Australian music industry delegates.

Australian voices were embedded throughout the program, with panels featuring Australian perspectives and practice, and curated networking meetings designed to spark ideas, forge new connections and inspire cross‑cultural collaboration.

A key highlight was the Consul General’s spotlight session, underscoring a strong commitment to music as a vital cultural bridge between Australia and India, recognising both Australia’s cultural contribution to India and the growing opportunity for the Indian music market to work in and with Australian artists and industry.

The presentation culminated in the announcement that IIMW will have a presence at this year’s BIGSOUND in Brisbane, where the team will actively seek out new Australian talent for its 2027 edition. This milestone signals a deepening relationship between the two markets and reinforces BIGSOUND’s position as a globally recognised platform for discovery, while opening new pathways for Australian artists to engage with one of the world’s most exciting and rapidly evolving music industries.

The week included strong Australian showcase performances from Reuben De Melo and Milan Ring, both of whom were well received by local audiences and industry.
