EGO RIDE – the debut album by Australian frog enthusiast Asha Jefferies – is a self-portrait of the songwriter in motion. “I think travel and transit are so transformative,” she says. “When I listen to music, I’m not still – I’m walking, or I’m driving.” Like filmmaker Greta Gerwig – forcing the camera to keep pace as she dances along New York City streets in Frances Ha – Jefferies harnesses the momentum of kinetic energy to move from scene to scene, to recover from her stumbles quickly. “It feels like I’m always writing about getting from one place to another.”

Across the album’s ten tracks, Jefferies revisits two years of words and actions on loop – choices to speak or to stay silent, moments of stepping into or retreating from change. On first listen, its titular track seems to lay out the beats of her escape from a failed relationship: “I had to give up to start again”. In fact, Jefferies is breaking free from herself. “I realised that a lot of the narratives throughout the album are tied to my ego – whether that’s moments where I felt on top of the world, or totally crumbled,” she says. “Writing brings comfort and closure and acceptance to everything I’m feeling.”

Baby Smith is the celebration of the musical alchemy between Australian songwriters Ray Sonder and Saxon Gable. After relocating to Berlin the naive strangers serendipitously bumped into each other at the infamous Kottbusser Tor station and quickly formed a friendship. Sharing influences from classic 60s songwriting to a love of vintage clothes, the duo started scratching out demos in their inner city flat. What began as catchy ideas quickly evolved into fully fleshed out songs which went on to form their debut EP and after a hazy Berlin summer of songwriting and late night recording sessions, Baby Smith was conceived. Offering a glimpse into the duo’s romantic approach to songwriting, harking back to classic structures and slim arrangements, EP I is a snapshot of Baby Smith’s musical style and interpretation of melody.

Their upcoming EP II reveals their darker shades and experiences. EP II has the duo tightening their grip on their sound, representing their most authentic selves as they carve out a reputation as direct songwriters with little room for meandering & indulgence. Taking on the role of Engineer and Producer they battled to balance their lust for perfectionism and their playful nonchalant desire for raw and emotional recordings. This is summed up by the delicate “Late Night Cocaine” which boils down heartbreak to a sound so real, the space between the listener and Baby Smith begins to contract, bringing anyone who listens into their world.

Battlesnake is an Australian 7-piece metal band that have emerged from the depths of the underworld. With a powerful sound that can only be described as the genetically engineered cyborg super child of Queen, King Gizzard and Judas Priest, the band has quickly gained a reputation for their high-impact live performances and epic, theatrical songwriting.

Battlesnake released their debut EP in 2020, a powerful 6 track release titled ‘Myths and Legends from Gorbag’s Domain’, their first full length, self-titled album followed in 2023 and their Magnum Opus ‘The Rise and Demise of the Motorsteeple’ in 2024.

This album and their high impact live show has garnered the interest of the Australian music industry. Recently the band supported KISS on their End of The World Tour, The Smashing Pumpkins and Janes Addiction on the The World Is a Vampire tour.

Kenyan born Elsy Wameyo has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in recent years, a chameleonic artist pouring life’s lessons and experiences into dynamic pieces of art. 2022 saw the release of her long-awaited debut EP, Nilotic, a self-produced six-track fusion of soul-infused hip-hop and alt-R&B praised by The Guardian, Acclaim, NME, Fashion Journal, & Complex for its incisive lyrics and impressive production.

The EP was a moment of arrival that took home six awards at the South Australia Music Awards. Elsy cut her teeth as a spirited performer alongside the likes of Sampa The Great and Aminé; as well as earning early cosigns from artists such as Tierra Whack and Tyler the Creator. The young artist embarked on international tours throughout Europe; following her appearances at a sold out run of Australian arenas. 2024 has brought her to a new creative touchstone, a place of reclamation and self-empowerment – Elsy Wameyo’s debut studio album, Saint Sinner. Stories of aggressive fearlessness and profound boldness are heard on her latest singles ‘Umva’ & ‘Conquer’ as Elsy battles with inner demons, temptations and worldly voices to find a way back to her guiding spirit.

As she stands at the precipice of her most important creative chapter yet, Elsy Wameyo is at peace knowing that with this album is the delivery of Elsy in her truest form. Folk Bitch Trio manifest a unique kinesiology of relaxed indie-folk with a quietly confident, assured underbelly. Born out of what they describe as a “mutual love for songwriting and truth-telling,” most significant to their rise and consistently captivating to their craft is the joy they take in making music together — it surges with the power of friends and collaborators executing a unified vision.

Australian indie outfit Girl and Girl are known for their passionate, humorously wry brand of hooky, ’70s post-punk-influenced guitar rock. Following several buzzed-about EPs, the group signed with Sub Pop and released their 2024 full-length debut, Call a Doctor, which NME called “brilliantly bonkers indie rock”.

Formed in 2020 in Queensland, Girl and Girl features singer Kai James, guitarist Jayden Wiliams, bassist Fraser Bell, and drummer Melissa James (aka Aunt Liss). After winning the inaugural Gold Coast Music Prize, Girl and Girl became one of the hottest buzz acts at Australia’s 2022 Bigsound Music Conference. The band supported Dry Cleaning on a national tour of Australia before embarking on a debut European Tour including showcase performances at The Great Escape, dates with Blondshell and an appearance at London’s Wide Awake Festival in 2023, playing to a packed and heaving main room at London Calling, and rapturous rooms at Pitchfork Music Festival and Rolling Stone Beach.

Girl and Girl was named one of Rolling Stone’s ‘Best of SXSW’ and NME ’10 Essential Acts’ at SXSW 2024, and featured on Steve Lamacq’s 6Music SXSW Wrap as a top pick of the festival. They returned to the US for a month-long tour with Royel Otis in May, where they recorded multiple live-to-air radio sessions including a debut performance for KEXP Live.

The band returns to Europe for appearances at End of The Road, Manchester Psych Festival and a debut headline tour ahead of Reeperbahn.

It is said that only through the trials and tribulations of turmoil do the doors of destiny open. A series of political blunders led to the death of culture in Sydney, gone was the midnight pulse that kept the city living and breathing. Rising from the ashes of this stoney rubble, a dark figure emerged, doused in eyeliner, smeared in lipstick, Johnny Hunter was born. Kicking and screaming in every corner of Sydney’s underground. Johnny Hunter haunted pubs with their obscure cabaret, blistering post punk riffs and howling bullish poetry.

Gushing with the glamour and bravado of the likes of Morrissey and Bowie whilst bleeding the torment of Joy Division and The Cure, The Johnny Hunter experience caught like wildfire, onlookers became followers and followers became fanatics giving the band its cult status and reputation as one of the fiercest live bands in their native Australia. The band has toured with Jack White and The Psychedelic Furs and performed numerous sold-out headline and festival appearances (including winning a BIGSOUND Australia nod for ‘Best Live Band’). Johnny Hunter are now London-based and currently working on their next EP with Canadian producer, Jesse F. Keeler (MSTRKRFT, Death From Above 1979).

Off the back of the release of her recent single ‘The Way She Moves’, Melbourne-based pop powerhouse Mia Wray returns to Germany for her debut performance at Reeperbahn Festival 2024.

Having already joined the likes of global sensation Maisie Peters in the EU (including DE), major exports DMA’S to tour the UK, plus a celebrated appearance at Brighton’s Great Escape, 2023 saw Mia Wray embark upon her first string of headline UK appearances. It’s an effort that was no feat for Mia, who’s captivating skills as a performer had previously seen the Melbourne-based artist opening in stadiums across Australia for Vance Joy and sell our her debut Australian tour. Mia has been championed by coveted publications such as NME, Rolling Stone, Pilerats, BEAT, Dork and many more. Mia Wray followed up her acclaimed debut EP release Stay Awake (2023), with singles ‘Monster Brain’, ‘Tell Her’ and ‘What If’ – all instantly connecting with fans, hitting the Shazam Charts both locally and in the UK. Catching the attention of Sir Elton John and Molly King (BBC Radio 1), the releases were also championed by triple j, Nova, the Hit Network, and Spotify (currently a Spotify RADAR artist) and Apple Music globally. Mia Wray will follow Reeperbahn with headline shows in Berlin, Cologne and London.

Milan Ring is a fiercely talented and accomplished songwriter, guitarist, producer, mix engineer and musical director. Praised as a leading icon in Australia’s “R&B renaissance,” her music transcends genres. Exploring the realms of alternative and electronic music through her production, she crafts ethereal vocal arrangements while centering the guitar, her second home.

She has collaborated with illustrious names such as Questlove, DRAM, Chance The Rapper’s group The Social Experiment, Intellexual, Che Lingo, Jean Deaux, TA-KU, BARKAA, Winston Surfshirt, and Sampa The Great, among others. This year, Milan Ring fully embraces her new era with singles ‘Mangos’, ‘Quicksand’, and ‘Photograph’, culminating in the release of her love- struck second studio album, “Mangos”.

Hailing from the sun-kissed shores of Newcastle, Australia, Rum Jungle epitomises a carefree spirit with their distinctive blend of surf rock and alt-pop. RVG’s highly-anticipated third album is named Brain Worms for the hyper-recognisable experience of, each day, baring witness to a world of private obsessions being aired out in the infinite. This may not be wholly new territory for the Melbourne post-punk band and its lyricist/frontwoman Romy Vager, but this time around, there’s a newfound radical acceptance glistening overtop everything.

After a momentous first five years — finding critical acclaim for debut A Quality of Mercy, landing on countless end-of-year Best Of lists, and playing alongside some of the world’s biggest acts in Pixies, Kurt Vile, Pete Doherty, Sleaford Mods, Camp Cope, Shame, and more — RVG released second album Feral as the world was locking down. Feral was called “masterfully executed” by The Big Issue, “the record of a lifetime” by Rolling Stone Australia, and given four-and-a-half stars by the Sydney Morning Herald.

But between the four bandmates — lead singer and guitarist Vager, guitarist Reuben Bloxham, drummer Marc Nolte and bassist Isabele Wallace — this is the most confident they’ve ever felt in RVG. They’ve moved past their influences, pushed themselves, and tried new things. And they have made a record they can, by all accounts, call their best.

Genre agnostic outfit The Grogans are one of Australia’s hardest working young bands. Forming in 2016 whilst in high school, the Melbourne/Naarm trio haven’t stopped since, releasing 3 EPs ‘Cacteyed’, ‘Twangs n Cans’ and ‘Grogan Grove’, and 4 albums in ‘Just What You Want’, ‘Day To Day’, ‘Which Way Is Out’ and most recently ‘Find Me A Cloud’. Each release has seen the genre-hopping trio showcase their musical ability, touching on blues, surf and garage rock as well as manoeuvres in punk and psych.

The Grogans have supported an array of Australian & international acts including Ocean Alley, WAVVES (US), Hockey Dad and The Chats as well as sharing festival line-ups with Franz Ferdinand, Los Bitchos and The Teskey Brothers.

The band have completed a plethora of AUS/NZ US/CAN and UK/EU tours which have included sell out shows all over the world as well as appearances at national and international festivals including Your & Owls (NSW), Wanderer Festival (NSW), NYE on the Hill (VIC), Dauwpop Festival (NL), London Calling (NL), Beast Of A Feast (NZ), Winnipeg Folk Festival (CAN) and Calgary Stampede (CAN) among others.

Yuwi-based indie powerhouse Tia Gostelow stormed onto the scene at 16 with the acclaimed debut “State of Art,” winning Triple J’s Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative.

Her fearless songwriting propelled her to further success, with her 2018 debut album ’Thick Skin’ certified GOLD, followed by the PLATINUM single “Strangers”.

The sonic landscape shifted in 2020 with the disco-pop brilliance of ‘CHRYSALIS,’ earning industry recognition and a #1 spot on the AIR charts. ‘Head Noise’ in 2023 showcased Tia’s shapeshifting pop, delving into twenty-something complexities.

In 2024, there will be a cascade of new music as Tia commits to releasing a track each month, showcasing her dreamy vocals and impressive gift for melody.
